Chairman Yoon Jisung of the Education and Safety Committee Calls for Objective Education Based on Curriculum and Achievement Standards Provided by the Secretariat of Sejong City Council

The Education and Safety Committee of the Sejong City Council held its first meeting on October 22, where it reviewed five ordinance bills, two consent agendas, and received one report. As a result of the review, all five ordinance bills-including the partial amendment ordinance on the prevention of and countermeasures against school violence by the Sejong Special Self-Governing City Office of Education, and the partial amendment ordinance on the Safe City of Sejong Special Self-Governing City-were approved as originally proposed. The consent agenda for the re-consignment change in the operation of the Sejong Student Mental Health Center was also approved as submitted, while the consent agenda for the contribution to the Sejong Lifelong Education and Policy Research Institute (Urban Safety Research Center) was approved with amendments. The committee also received a report on the fiscal disclosure results based on last year's settlement of accounts for Sejong Special Self-Governing City.

Chairman Yoon Jisung, during the questioning of the Sejong City Office of Education, checked whether there were any gaps in the implementation of education policies due to the current acting system under the deputy superintendent, following the vacancy in the superintendent position. He urged careful attention to ensure that the education of citizens and students can be continuously maintained and developed.

In particular, citing media reports about a situation related to education on understanding the North Korean system at a local middle school, he inquired about the matter and requested that fair and objective education, based on the curriculum and achievement standards, be implemented in the field.

Chairman Yoon stated, "Through the review by the Education and Safety Committee, we conducted in-depth discussions on important issues directly linked to the lives of Sejong citizens, such as the prevention of school violence, strengthening citizen safety, and realizing support for educational disasters. Going forward, we will continue to reflect citizens' opinions in the fields of education and safety, and, with a responsible attitude toward pending issues, we will do our best to cooperate with Sejong City Hall and the Office of Education to create a sustainable environment for education and safety."

The items preliminarily reviewed at the first Education and Safety Committee meeting are scheduled to be finalized at the second plenary session of the 101st extraordinary session on October 24.
