A venue that brings together the flavors and stories of the Joun-dong area in Chuncheon will be held for citizens to enjoy together.
Chuncheon City in Gangwon Province (Mayor Yuk Donghan) will host the 3rd Chuncheon Urban Regeneration Festa (subtitled Joun Gourmet Gathering) at the City Hall Square for two days, from October 24 to 25, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The event is designed to allow citizens, merchants, residents, writers, and artists to experience the urban regeneration site in a lively and engaging way.
The most notable program is the special gourmet banquet, "Joun Gourmet Gathering," featuring restaurants from the Joun-dong urban regeneration area. The Joun Gourmet Gathering will offer signature dishes from 17 restaurants in Saemyeong-dong and Yoseon-dong, presented as a four-course meal to a citizen tasting panel, who will provide honest feedback and rate the dishes.
The citizen tasting panel was pre-recruited online, with 160 participants filling up quickly. On the day of the event, another 160 participants will be recruited on a first-come, first-served basis. Each participant can choose one of the four courses to taste.
The course development is enhanced by on-site consulting and advice from culinary experts, including Professor Lee Hyungwoo of Hallym Seongsim University’s Barista and Baking Department, Instructor Park Byeongryeol of Jungjeongheon Lifelong Education Center, and Park Iksoo, General Manager of Taebaek Ramada Hotel.
A variety of urban regeneration programs will also welcome citizens. These include the "Urban Regeneration Exhibition," which introduces the value of urban regeneration and the achievements of Chuncheon City's urban regeneration projects; hands-on "Urban Regeneration Experience Programs" on-site; and the "made by Yaksacheon" pop-up store, which brands the unique charm and lifestyle of the Yaksacheon area. Additionally, a flea market, cultural and artistic performances, and various events will further enhance the autumn atmosphere of the old downtown area.
A city official stated, "Through this event, we aim to invigorate the local commercial district and share the value of urban regeneration with citizens," and added, "We ask for your great interest and active participation."
