Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association (Chairman Lim Chaecheong) announced on the 22nd that, together with Gyeonggi Expressway Co., Ltd. (CEO Yoon Hyunho), it delivered the "EV Drill Lance," an electric vehicle fire response device, to the Wondong 119 Safety Center in Osan, Gyeonggi Province.

This support was made possible after Gyeonggi Expressway donated 12 million won to Hope Bridge in July. Hope Bridge used the donation to purchase the EV Drill Lance and delivered it to the fire site.

The EV Drill Lance is a specialized device that injects water directly into the battery of an electric vehicle, enabling rapid suppression of high-temperature fires. It was developed to effectively combat electric vehicle battery fires, which are difficult to extinguish with conventional firefighting equipment. The tool is also gaining attention for its excellent performance in preventing re-ignition and stopping the spread of accidents.

According to the National Fire Information System, the number of electric vehicle fires increased nearly threefold, from 24 cases in 2021 to 72 cases in 2023. However, budget and support for such specialized equipment remain insufficient, making it urgent to strengthen on-site response capabilities.

Kim Minsu, Vice President of Gyeonggi Expressway, stated, "As the adoption of electric vehicles rapidly increases, enhancing the response capabilities of fire sites has become even more important," adding, "This support is part of our company's social responsibility to protect the lives and safety of the public."

Shin Hoon, Secretary-General of Hope Bridge, said, "The nature of disasters is changing due to the climate crisis and technological advancements," and emphasized, "If voluntary donations from the private sector are combined with public cooperation, we can respond effectively to new types of disasters."
