Gwangju Urban Corporation announced on the 22nd that it conducted customized disaster safety education for vulnerable housing groups at the Dong-gu Blue Counseling Center on the 21st, and delivered cold weather supplies to help them prepare for the upcoming winter cold wave.

This event is part of Gwangju Urban Corporation’s ongoing efforts to raise safety awareness among vulnerable housing groups and protect them from winter disasters.

In particular, the initiative focused on improving disaster response capabilities and effectively preventing winter damage for residents of gosiwon (small rooming houses), jjokbang (tiny single rooms), vinyl greenhouses, and elderly people living alone, all of whom are especially vulnerable to disasters and cold waves. The goal is to help them spend the winter safely and warmly. Last year, the corporation also supported vulnerable housing groups by providing cold weather supplies to help them prepare for the cold wave.

The disaster safety education, led by Professor Song Changyoung of Gwangju University, covered essential information for daily life such as fire evacuation procedures, safety guidelines during cold waves, and safe use of electrical appliances. Participants responded positively, saying, "It was genuinely helpful," and "I gained useful information I didn’t know before." The cold weather supplies were delivered based on a prior needs assessment and tailored to the recipients’ necessities, making the support more effective.

President Kim Seungnam stated, "We organized this event to provide practical support, however small, so that neighbors living in poor housing conditions do not suffer from the cold wave," adding, "We will continue to expand education and support activities for those vulnerable to disasters, fulfilling our role as a socially responsible public corporation."
