Colloquium "Climate Crisis and the Future of Museums"
To mark the 20th anniversary of its relocation to Yongsan, the National Museum of Korea will co-host an academic conference titled "Waves of Change: Talking About Museums" and an expert colloquium "Climate Crisis and the Future of Museums" with the National Museum of Korea Association on October 29 and 30, respectively.
This academic event has been organized to design future strategies and visions for the National Museum of Korea as it enters an era of five million annual visitors.
The academic conference on October 29 will feature experts from various fields, including Choi Jae-chun, Chair of the Biodiversity Foundation and an ecologist, and Kim Youngmin, Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Seoul National University. Specialists in museum studies, education, science and technology, biology, political thought, population economics, climate change, and regional culture will diagnose the social environment and contemporary demands facing museums, and engage in in-depth discussions about the future direction of the National Museum of Korea. Anyone interested in museums is welcome to participate.
The expert colloquium on October 30 will address the need for museums to pay attention to and respond to climate change. The first climate change curator in Canada will speak to museum professionals about recent environmental changes in museums caused by climate change, as well as new paradigms for museums and proactive response strategies. Participation is open to 300 people who pre-register and 100 on-site registrants on a first-come, first-served basis. The event will also be broadcast live on YouTube.
