Actively Discovering Exemplary Citizen Cases
to Promote the Spread of Carbon Neutral Practices
Changwon Special City in South Gyeongsang Province recently held an awards ceremony to recognize three teams as 'Masters of Carbon Neutrality in Daily Life' as part of the '2025 Master Series for Carbon Neutral Living'.
At the '2025 Carbon Talk Concert' held on October 18 around Yongji Lake in Seongsan-gu, the selection of the masters was based on a comprehensive evaluation of their commitment, efforts, and sustainability in practicing carbon neutrality in daily life. Out of eight teams, three stood out for their exceptional achievements in environmental protection, resource circulation, and green living: Lee Injae's family, recognized as 'Masters of Carbon'; Yu Misuk from Soadap-dong, Uichang-gu; and the Komjirak Green Mom Club from the Uichang Lifelong Learning Center.
Lee Injae's family, known as the 'Masters of Carbon', has consistently participated in the Car Carbon Neutrality Point Program for 10 years, leading efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by saving electricity, water, and city gas, and by using public transportation. The family also plans and practices a sustainable carbon-neutral lifestyle at home through family meetings, focusing on vegetarian living, reducing single-use products, and consuming local food.
Yu Misuk from Soadap-dong, Uichang-gu, has promoted public transportation by using Changwon's bicycle-sharing service 'Nubija' and the K-Pass card. She also produces EM solution to share with neighbors and contributes to river purification efforts.
The Komjirak Green Mom Club, a resource upcycling group at the Uichang Lifelong Learning Center, has taken the lead in environmental protection and spreading a culture of sharing through resource circulation activities, such as making kitchen detergent from used cooking oil and developing upcycled products from cans and bottle caps.
Detailed stories of the awardees can be found in the 'City News' section of the official Changwon City website. Changwon City plans to encourage more citizens to participate in carbon-neutral activities, aiming to make a positive impact on the local community and environment.
Additionally, the city has worked to discover carbon neutrality masters in various fields this year, including 'Campus Masters', 'Workplace Masters', and 'Daily Life Masters'. Out of a total of 36 teams who participated, 11 were selected. Currently, applications are open until November 21 for the 'Masters of Carbon Neutrality in School Life' program, targeting elementary, middle, and high school students.
Ryu Yujeong, Director of the Climate and Environment Bureau, stated, "The three teams selected as Masters of Carbon Neutrality in Daily Life are excellent examples, demonstrating a variety of ways to practice carbon neutrality in everyday life. We ask for continued participation and engagement from citizens to help spread a culture of carbon neutrality throughout the community."
