Sungju County Begins Grafting Process Aiming for 700 Billion Won in Chamoe Revenue

Sungju County Farmers Achieve Over 600 Billion Won in Gross Agricultural Income for Three Consecutive Years

Sungju County announced on October 21 that about 540 farms in Byeokjin-myeon (headed by Kim Changgu) began the grafting process for the production of "Premium Sungju Chamoe for 2026," starting with Choi Dongjin's farm in Oegiri on October 20.

Chamoe grafting is a cultivation technique where the stem of the chamoe melon is attached to the rootstock of another plant, typically bottle gourd or pumpkin, to secure seedlings that are resistant to diseases and have stable growth before full-scale planting begins.

Choi Dongjin's farm prepared 16,000 seedlings of the Eunhasu chamoe variety on this day, aiming to begin production in February next year. Local farmers gathered to help each other through a cooperative labor exchange, fostering community spirit and wishing for a bountiful harvest in the coming year.

Lee Byeonghwan, the mayor of Sungju County, stated, "Despite this year being marked by unprecedented price volatility due to abnormal climate conditions and changes in the agricultural environment, I believe that the dedicated efforts of Sungju County's farmers have enabled us to achieve the remarkable milestone of reaching approximately 600 billion won in gross agricultural income for three consecutive years." He added, "We will spare no effort in providing various administrative support for agriculture so that Sungju County can achieve 700 billion won in chamoe gross income."
