This program, as part of the Busan RISE initiative, followed the previous "Bab Project" and was the second installment, titled the "Beach Project."
It was designed to go beyond simple sightseeing experiences by establishing a new model for experiential tourism programs centered on Busan's beaches. The aim was to promote diversity in cruise tourism and revitalize local tourism.
The event was attended by B·RISE student supporters and a group of six foreign participants. Starting with a surfing experience at Songjeong Beach, the participants enjoyed various activities at Busan’s iconic tourist spots, including the Beach Train, X the Sky observatory, and Haeundae Beach.
In particular, the surfing experience at Songjeong Beach highlighted the potential of surfing as a year-round marine activity and demonstrated the possibilities for tourism programs utilizing the region’s surfing infrastructure. Afterwards, participants took the Beach Train from Songjeong to Haeundae, admiring the coastal scenery, and had a special opportunity to enjoy both ocean and city views from the 411-meter-high X the Sky observatory.
The itinerary also included a culinary experience, as participants tasted Busan’s signature dish, pork rice soup, allowing them to enjoy the local flavors and culture together.
One participant from Kyrgyzstan shared, “I used to think of Busan as just a city where you get off a cruise and look at the sea for a while, but after learning to surf and exploring Haeundae’s attractions, I realized it is a much more vibrant city.”
Kwon Yoojeong, Deputy Director of the RISE Project at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, said, “The Beach Project was designed as an experiential program that actively utilizes Busan’s marine resources and differentiates itself from existing tourism programs. Moving forward, we will continue to strengthen partnerships and agreements with related industries to ensure the ongoing operation of the program and contribute to the revitalization of local tourism.”
