Certified Earning About $35 Million from YouTube
Urges: "Please Donate to Worthy Organizations Instead of Supporting Me"

An American YouTuber with 17.3 million subscribers has recently made headlines after disabling the sponsorship feature during a live broadcast, asking viewers to "stop supporting me." Charlie White Jr., who runs the YouTube channels "Penguinz0" and "MoistCr1TiKaL," covers a wide range of topics including gaming, podcasts, and social issues.

On October 10, Penguinz0 released a video titled "I'm Turning It Off" on his YouTube channel. What he decided to turn off was the sponsorship feature on his streaming service. He declared, "I will no longer accept any sponsorships," and added, "I will deactivate both YouTube channel memberships and Super Chat." However, since Twitch, which simulcasts his streams, requires subscribers to manually cancel their paid subscriptions, he asked viewers to stop supporting him there as well.

He explained, "The reason I'm turning off all sponsorship systems is because I don't want people to give me money anymore. I want to put an end to this trend." He continued, "Top streamers hardly ever need to rely on fan sponsorships to make a living. Most of their income comes from advertising revenue."

He also said, "If you really have more money than you know what to do with, please donate to organizations that do good work instead of me. I've been saying for a long time that 'my content should be consumed for free' and 'there's no need to sponsor me,' but people still continued to support me. That's why I want to remove the option entirely from the table now." He later stated in another video that he has no intention of reinstating the sponsorship system. Having already earned more than enough from his YouTube activities, he added, "From now on, I only want to receive your time, not your money."

He previously confirmed that he earned approximately 35 million USD (about 50 billion KRW) before taxes, stating, "I started YouTube in 2007, but I only began making real money from 2018." He added, "I truly consider myself lucky. I don't think of myself as special, and I've always said so. I still feel that way now."

Meanwhile, Penguinz0 also reported last year on Johnny Somali, an American-Somali YouTuber who was booked by police in Korea after a series of controversial incidents, including kissing the Statue of Peace. In a video titled "Most Hated Streamer Got Arrested Again" posted in November last year, he said, "Johnny Somali caused a stir in Korea with his outrageous and rude behavior, leading to public resentment. He is currently under police investigation," and added, "There is a reason why Koreans criticize Johnny Somali."
