Operation of Lifelong Learning Promotional and Hands-On Booths
Geochang County, South Gyeongsang Province, announced on the 21st that it participated in the 2nd Gyeongsangnam-do Lifelong Learning Expo held at the Changwon Convention Center (CECO) in Changwon, achieving significant results and receiving enthusiastic responses in various areas, including operating a lifelong learning promotional and hands-on booth, participating in a club competition, and winning awards in literacy education.
This expo was hosted by Gyeongsangnam-do and organized by the Gyeongnam Human Resources Lifelong Education Promotion Agency, under the theme “Coexistence and Mutual Growth, Hopeful Gyeongnam Growing through Lifelong Learning!” A total of 37 organizations from across the province participated in the event.
Geochang County operated hands-on booths such as “Making a Geochang Lucky Broom to Sweep in Happiness” and “Geochang Woodworking Camp Wood Fork Class,” providing visitors with the joy of direct participation.
On the 17th, a commemorative event for “Literacy Month” was also held. Five literacy learners from Geochang County, including Kim Soonhee from Galgye Village in Buksang-myeon, were honored with awards in the poetry and painting exhibition. As part of the Literacy Month celebration, the Arim High School Choir performed, with both school-age students and adult learners sharing the stage for a special cross-generational performance.
The Geochang Youth Silver Theater Company, under the Geochang Cultural Center, participated in the lifelong learning club competition and won the “Excellence Award,” once again demonstrating Geochang’s reputation as a city of theater. Geochang County stated that, as a learning city with a strong cultural and artistic foundation such as the Geochang International Theater Festival, this award is a meaningful result that showcases the combination of the region’s cultural identity and lifelong learning.
Notably, at the 5th Gyeongsangnam-do Lifelong Learning Awards Ceremony held during the expo, Lee Jongjoo, an adult literacy instructor from Geochang-eup, received the Lifelong Learning Grand Prize. Lee has built his expertise through continuous learning and professional training since his teaching career, and even after retirement, he has contributed to spreading a learning culture in the community through various lifelong learning activities, including smartphone education, literacy education, and intergenerational integration programs.
In addition, during the expo, a benchmarking program for lifelong learning stakeholders was held, with more than 20 lifelong learning activists and officials visiting other cities and counties to study best practices and seek directions for the development of lifelong learning in Geochang County.
Kim Hyunmi, Deputy Governor of Geochang County, stated, “This expo served as an opportunity to showcase Geochang County’s various lifelong learning achievements to the residents of the province and reaffirm our status as a lifelong learning city where all citizens learn and grow together. We will continue to expand a lifelong learning culture led by our residents.”
