Sharing Insights on Latest Technology Trends
Daejeon City facilitated information exchange and networking on the latest technologies and industry trends in the secondary battery sector.
On October 20, Daejeon City held the "5th Secondary Battery Industry Technology Exchange Networking Day" at the Multimedia Room of the Daejeon Technopark Robot Center, providing an opportunity to share technological trends and explore collaboration possibilities with local companies and experts.
The event was attended by over 50 participants, including members of the Daejeon Secondary Battery Industry Corporate Council and representatives from academia, industry, and research institutions.
Notably, lectures included an introduction to EcoPro's next-generation secondary battery development by Lee Dongwook, Director at EcoPro BM, a leading company in the cathode material market for secondary batteries, and a presentation on the development of next-generation secondary batteries for a sustainable society by Kim Myunghwan, Head of the Next-Generation Secondary Battery Strategy Research Group at the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology (the first National Special Researcher from a government-funded institute).
Additionally, there was a session introducing local secondary battery industry companies. Smart Korea, which gave a presentation, manufactures high-value-added porous carbon materials using pitch-based raw materials, a petroleum byproduct, by utilizing technology transferred from the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology. The company is accelerating commercialization by expanding its factory to enhance production capacity for full-scale mass production.
Furthermore, as part of efforts to strengthen global competitiveness, the Job Economy Promotion Agency introduced the "North America Market Entry Support Project" to support overseas market expansion, and continued communication and exchanges were held to build partnerships among companies.
Son Cheolwoong, Director of the Future Strategic Industry Division of Daejeon City, stated, "Secondary batteries, together with strategic industries, are a key foundational industry for regional economic growth, so securing advanced technological capabilities and strengthening industrial competitiveness are absolutely essential. Although domestic and international market conditions remain unstable, we will strive to provide practical, field-oriented, and sustainable policy support so that local companies can take further steps in technology and market development."
Meanwhile, since last year, Daejeon City has invested 3 billion won of municipal funds to actively promote support projects for the secondary battery industry, including corporate support, workforce training, and the establishment of an industry-academia-research ecosystem.
