Over 80 Experts from Industry, Academia, Research, and Government Gather in Boryeong
to Discuss "AI-Based Marine & Fisheries Strategies"
Hoseo University Emerges as a West Coast Intelligence R&D Hub
Hoseo University has opened the door to innovation in the marine and fisheries sector by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
The university, together with the Graduate School of Technology Management, the Chungnam Intelligence Innovation Center, and the Marine IT Convergence Technology Research Institute, held the '2025 West Coast Marine & Fisheries Intelligence Innovation Conference' in Boryeong, Chungcheongnam-do. At the event, they presented AI-based marine and fisheries policies and industrial development strategies to lead the West Coast era.
Hoseo University announced on the 19th that it co-hosted the '2025 West Coast Marine & Fisheries Intelligence Innovation Conference' in Boryeong on the 17th.
This event, held under the theme 'Marine & Fisheries Policy Directions and AI Technology Convergence in the West Coast Era,' was attended by over 80 participants, including Kim Dongil, Mayor of Boryeong, Seo Wongyo, Head of the Industry-Academia Cooperation Group at Hoseo University, and Park Seungjun, Director at the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. They discussed the new government's marine and fisheries policy directions and strategies for developing the fisheries industry on the West Coast.
During the first expert session, the following topics were presented and the latest technologies and case studies were shared: ▲ Creation and management strategies for West Coast fisheries resources (Lee Youngkwon, Director at Korea Fisheries Resources Agency), ▲ Trends in fisheries energy efficiency technologies (Jang Taeuk, CEO of Quantum Solution), and ▲ Outstanding domestic and international cases of marine and fisheries intelligence (Professor Lim Taeho, Hoseo University).
The second special session focused on 'Discovering Specialized Marine & Fisheries Projects in Boryeong and Policy Proposals,' where representatives from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Boryeong City, the National Marine Biodiversity Institute of Korea, companies, and universities engaged in in-depth discussions on region-specific policies and ways to integrate technology.
Park Seungbeom, Head of the Chungnam Intelligence Innovation Center at Hoseo University, stated, "This conference has provided an opportunity to practically apply AI technology in the marine and fisheries sector and to strengthen the cooperation system among the public, private, industrial, academic, and research communities. We will continue research and networking to further advance and sophisticate the West Coast's marine and fisheries industry."
This conference is significant in that it strengthened the connection between the West Coast marine R&D cluster and local industries, and set a direction for policy development and nurturing of professional talent in the marine and fisheries sector using AI technology.
The event was supported by the 'Regional Intelligence Innovation Talent Development Project' of the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP).
