AI Enhances Kimchi Flavor... LG Launches 'Toktok' Kimchi Refrigerator

Meticulous Professional Care Included with Subscription

LG Electronics has launched a new kimchi refrigerator that enhances user convenience with artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

On the 19th, LG Electronics announced the release of the new 'LG Dios AI Objet Collection Kimchi Toktok.' For the first time among LG Electronics' kimchi refrigerators, the 'AI Customized Storage' feature has been applied. When a user scans the barcode of packaged kimchi with the ThinQ app, the refrigerator considers comprehensive information such as the type of kimchi and manufacturer to automatically adjust the temperature for optimal flavor. It also analyzes customer usage patterns to help maintain the ideal temperature. During periods when the refrigerator door is frequently opened, it adjusts the 'defrost operation' time by pausing cold air circulation to prevent frost buildup.

LG Electronics has also equipped the new model with structures and features that allow for convenient storage of a variety of ingredients, taking into account that, outside of kimchi-making season, each compartment is often used for storing vegetables, fruits, rice, grains, or for freezing, rather than just kimchi.

For the first time in the industry, a multi-purpose divider has been applied to the upper compartment, allowing it to be separated into left and right sections, which can each be individually set for kimchi, refrigeration, or freezing. During kimchi-making season, both sides of the upper compartment can be used in kimchi storage mode, while in summer, each compartment can be switched to a freezer or refrigerator as needed. With this feature, the large 491-liter capacity can be utilized as four independent spaces: left and right upper compartments, middle compartment, and lower compartment.

The 'Multi-Purpose Storage Mode' automatically sets the optimal temperature for various types of ingredients. When customers select an item to store from 37 different food categories-such as beverages, alcoholic drinks, fruits, or vegetables-via the ThinQ app, the refrigerator adjusts to the best temperature. LG Electronics plans to expand the ingredient storage modes through future ThinQ app upgrades.

Hygiene management features have also been significantly enhanced. The 'Pure Fresh Filter,' now twice as large as the previous version, effectively deodorizes and keeps the internal environment pleasant. Especially for subscription purchases, a professional will visit to provide thorough care, including filter replacement, performance checks, exterior cleaning, cooling fan cleaning, and free maintenance during the contract period.

Baek Seungtae, Executive Vice President and Head of LG Electronics’ Kitchen Solution Business Division, stated, "By combining AI and subscription services, we have enhanced both the flavor of kimchi and user convenience. We aim to deliver a new gourmet experience with technology that allows for the convenient storage of a wide variety of ingredients."
