The Gyeongsangbuk-do 119 Wildfire Special Response Team, led by Fire Superintendent Jang Haedo, will conduct intensive "Wildfire Suppression Specialized Training" for approximately 2,000 members from 51 volunteer fire brigades in the province over a three-month period starting in October, in order to proactively respond to large-scale wildfires.

"Training Is Real Action"... Gyeongbuk 119 Wildfire Special Response Team Professionalizes 2,000 Volunteer Firefighters for Wildfire Suppression Practical training to enhance wildfire response capabilities by volunteer firefighters and fire brigade members together in scenarios similar to actual dispatch situations

This training reflects the lessons learned from a series of recent large wildfires, aiming to reorganize volunteer fire brigades as effective on-site response forces and to nurture them as core personnel in Gyeongbuk's wildfire command and operational system.

The training curriculum consists of: ▲Understanding wildfire suppression tactics and command systems ▲Operation of suppression equipment ▲Establishment of firebreaks ▲Protection of residential areas and securing water sources. In particular, hands-on, practice-oriented training using the latest equipment such as all-terrain pump trucks, wildfire suppression vehicles, and portable pumps will enhance adaptability to various terrains and mobility.

Additionally, mission-based joint drills with local fire stations will allow participants to become familiar with response procedures in scenarios similar to actual dispatches, while also strengthening the cooperation system between volunteer firefighters and fire brigade members. The goal is to secure the golden time for initial response at the scene.

Jang Haedong, head of the 119 Wildfire Special Response Team, stated, "This training is designed to maximize the professionalism and collaboration capabilities of volunteer fire brigades," adding, "Since initial response is critical in wildfires, we will do our utmost to protect the lives and property of residents through systematic training."

This specialized training is not just a basic wildfire response drill, but a symbolic measure declaring the "professionalization of volunteer fire brigades." It is expected that, as the precision and collaboration of on-site response are strengthened, Gyeongbuk's wildfire response system will advance to the next level.
