The Changwon Branch of the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Changwon Coast Guard are conducting a search and seizure of the headquarters of HMM and KCC in connection with the "Busan New Port Diver Fatal Accident" that occurred in July.

According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Coast Guard on October 17, the two agencies began the search and seizure at 9 a.m. on October 17 at HMM and KCC's headquarters in Seoul, as well as KCC's Ulsan plant.

On July 20, at the Busan New Port container terminal in Jinhae-gu, Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, two out of three divers in their 30s died and one was seriously injured while performing underwater cleaning work on a 50,000-ton vessel.

The divers were identified as freelancers contracted by a subcontractor.

HMM, the owner of the vessel, and KCC, which assigned the work to the subcontractor at the time, are under investigation by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Coast Guard regarding this incident.

The investigative authorities are conducting an investigation to determine whether the two companies were the principal contractors.
