On October 17, Suncheon City in South Jeolla Province announced that, in collaboration with the police and the Model Drivers Association, it had conducted volunteer traffic management activities at the memorial park and cemetery during this year's Chuseok holiday period to alleviate traffic congestion caused by the concentration of visitors paying respects.
The city deployed around 20 public officials, along with members of the Suncheon Police Station and the Model Drivers Association, in areas where traffic congestion is common due to visitors. They provided safety and convenience for visitors by managing traffic flow and guiding parking and stopping.
This volunteer activity has been ongoing since 2023. Nineteen members of the Model Drivers Association participated in traffic management from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., guiding vehicles from the entrance of the memorial park to the parking lot near the charnel house to ensure that visitors did not experience inconvenience.
Moon Bonghyeon, president of the Model Drivers Association, said, "During Seollal and Chuseok holidays, our members voluntarily participate in traffic management for visitors at the memorial park. We are pleased to help ensure that those visiting the park can pay their respects without any inconvenience."
Meanwhile, during this year's Chuseok holiday, the number of visitors to the memorial park and cemetery reached approximately 41,000. On the day of Chuseok itself, the city provided additional convenience by opening the park early at 7 a.m. and extending operations by two hours until 6 p.m.
