The event was attended by Governor Kim Jintae, distinguished transportation workers, and officials from the transportation sector. Twelve transportation workers who have provided exemplary transportation services to residents and tourists were selected as winners of the Public Transportation Kind Service King award.
The 'Public Transportation Kind Service King' award was established in 1999 to recognize the dedication and service spirit of transportation workers who serve as the lifeline of local communities. This year marks the 27th ceremony. To date, a total of 537 individuals have received this award, making it the most prestigious honor for transportation workers in the province.
This year, among 10,311 transportation workers in the province, 15 candidates were nominated through recommendations from mayors, county governors, and private transportation organizations. After a document review, on-site inspections, and deliberation by the Transportation Committee, 12 final winners-including corporate taxi drivers-were selected. The winners received a governor’s commendation and the Kind Service King award plaque.
Following the awards ceremony, a capacity-building workshop for transportation safety agency officials in the province was also held, providing a forum for sharing transportation safety policies and discussing ways to improve service quality.

Governor Kim Jintae stated, "This ceremony, which first began in 1999, 26 years ago, was the first of its kind in South Korea. The 12 individuals awarded today were selected from among over 10,000 public transportation workers in the province, representing just 0.1 percent, which makes this honor even more meaningful."
He added, "Recently, Gangwon Province ranked fifth nationwide in the Transportation Culture Index evaluation, with Wonju ranking first among all cities. We will continue to support efforts to improve transportation culture and kind service in the future."
