People Power Party: "Choo Mi-ae's Judiciary Committee Is the Pinnacle of Dictatorship... Pushing for National Assembly Act Amendment" [2025 National Audit]

Legislation and Judiciary Committee Audit Continues to Stall
Opposition: "Choo's Unilateral Stripping of Speaking Rights... Must Be Restricted"

As the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee's audit of government affairs continues to be disrupted, the People Power Party has announced plans to push for an amendment to the National Assembly Act. The party explained that, since the Democratic Party of Korea is conducting the audit in a biased manner, it will seek to revise the law to prevent standing committee chairs from stripping lawmakers of their right to speak.

On October 16, members of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee from the People Power Party held a press conference at the National Assembly, stating, "The committee is being operated arbitrarily and in a biased way, in violation of the National Assembly Act."

Na Kyungwon, a People Power Party lawmaker appointed as the opposition party's secretary on the committee, criticized, "The National Assembly Act requires all agendas to be set in consultation with the secretary, but our party's secretary is being deliberately left unappointed. Since the audit began, every procedure has been conducted unlawfully."

Na also stated, "Committee Chair Choo Mi-ae frequently invokes her authority to maintain order and strips lawmakers of their right to speak," calling it "an extreme form of parliamentary dictatorship." She also pointed out other issues, including the forced on-site inspection of the Supreme Court and the unilateral selection of witnesses for the audit.

Na further argued, "The current committee chair is violating the principles of parliamentary democracy and abusing her authority. We will draft an amendment to the National Assembly Act to restrict the chair's power to deprive lawmakers of their right to speak under the guise of maintaining order in the chamber."

Regarding the Democratic Party's call for a third audit of the Supreme Court, Na firmly stated, "This is unacceptable." She added, "There have already been two unacceptable audits, and now they want a third. This is an attempt to force the judiciary to submit and ultimately acquit President Lee Jaemyung."
