Donghae City Holds 2026 Major Work Plan Report Meeting
Completing a Citizen-Centered and Economy-Driven Happy City in the 8th Term

During the meeting, participants discussed specific strategies to achieve results for the remainder of the 8th popularly elected term and to advance the region, with an internal focus on "Completing a citizen-centered and economy-driven happy city in the 8th term" and an external vision of "Leading the Northern Economy and making a new leap as an industrial logistics and tourism resort city."
In 2026, the city plans to focus on inspecting and implementing measures for stabilizing livelihoods, including securing momentum for recovery and growth, as well as supporting the stabilization of vulnerable groups. The city will also continue to promote administrative innovation for regional economic recovery and stability.
To lead changes in the urban environment, Donghae City will prioritize key projects that citizens can directly experience, such as improving major tourist sites and downtown public restrooms, green remodeling of public buildings (senior centers), creating Jeoncheon as a leisure and healing space, and fostering Donghaebada Central Market as a cultural tourism market.
Additionally, the city aims to strengthen the competitiveness of future growth industries by building an eco-friendly fisheries industry ecosystem and designating hinterland complexes at Donghae Port. In response to evolving tourism trends, Donghae City will also work to create a differentiated tourism and resort city by developing specialized tourist destinations linked to the metropolitan transportation network, promoting cultural regeneration at the Mureungbyeolyucheonji quarry, and establishing national leisure camping sites.
Across all areas of municipal administration, Donghae City plans to actively identify regional innovation policy tasks in line with new government initiatives and to expand opportunities for regional development and improve citizens' quality of life through proactive responses.
Mayor Sim Gyueon stated, "For the remainder of the 8th term, we will adhere to the basics and principles, focus our administrative capabilities on increasing citizens' income and improving quality of life, and create a 'Happy Donghae' that everyone can truly experience."
