Offering Services Including "Visiting Health Management"

Seo-gu District in Gwangju has opened and begun full-scale operation of 'Integrated Health Centers' in three areas-Sangmu, Nongseong, and Pungam-to provide comprehensive support for residents' health and care needs in one place.

The opening ceremony for the Integrated Health Center was held on the morning of the 16th at Deulbul Hall on the second floor of Seo-gu District Office, with over 100 people in attendance, including Gwangju Mayor Kang Gijeong and Seo-gu District Mayor Kim Ikang.

The first part of the ceremony included an introduction to the project, a progress report, the unveiling of the Nongseong Integrated Health Center (Seo-gu Public Health Center), and a demonstration of the center's medical equipment. The second part featured a health lecture by Seo Sangil, the head teacher of Geumgok Seodang in Gwangju.

The Integrated Health Center is based on the concept of a 'small public health center in front of your home,' integrating services that were previously dispersed across public health centers, health lifestyle support centers, and dementia safety centers into a single community-based location. Residents can now access a variety of consultations and health services conveniently nearby.

Seo-gu District provides a total of 14 services through the center, including smoking cessation, nutrition, exercise education, basic health checkups, and counseling for dementia and mental health. The district has also strengthened its care function by operating a 'visiting health management service,' where professionals such as doctors, Korean medicine doctors, and nurses visit homes directly.

In addition, health managers assigned to each area regularly monitor the health status of participants and, when necessary, coordinate with medical institutions to ensure continuous care.

To implement this project, Seo-gu District established two dedicated teams within the public health center in July and assigned 28 specialized staff members, preparing for a transition from treatment-centered to prevention-centered public health services.

Furthermore, the district has strengthened its cooperative network with local medical institutions by signing agreements with five hospitals: Gwangju Hanguk, Miraero 21, Sangmu, Seogwang, and Sunhan Hospital. Through these partnerships, Seo-gu District has established a support system to help vulnerable patients discharged from hospitals return home smoothly.

Seo-gu District Mayor Kim Ikang stated, "The Integrated Health Center is a public healthcare hub that provides both health and care services close to residents' daily lives," and added, "We will create a healthy local community through a prevention-focused, demand-driven health safety net."
