Support for Wildfire Recovery and Redevelopment Project
Improving Living Conditions and Restoring Rural Identity
Cheongsong County in North Gyeongsang Province (Governor Yoon Kyunghee) has been finally selected for the 2025 Rural Spatial Improvement Project, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, securing a total project budget of 5 billion won.
The Rural Spatial Improvement Project is part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' rural spatial planning system. It supports the demolition or relocation of hazardous facilities within villages and helps redevelop those sites into community spaces such as rest areas or convenience facilities for residents.
For this project, the county selected the Siryang District, which suffered direct and indirect damage from a large wildfire originating in Uiseong in March 2025. As a result of collaborative efforts between a residents' committee composed of local residents and a working group made up of county officials, the district achieved final selection for this public project.
The total project budget is 5 billion won (50% from the national government, 15% from the provincial government, and 35% from the county). By 2029, the plan is to demolish the closed Siryang Elementary School, acquire the site, and establish a healing and recovery center, create a multipurpose healing plaza, and carry out infrastructure improvements and landscape development. Through these initiatives, the county aims to build a disaster safety hub facility for residents in the wildfire-affected area and also plans to promote community capacity-building projects to revitalize the local community.
In particular, the county expects this project to significantly improve the quality of life for residents affected by the wildfire and to help strengthen future natural disaster response capabilities through educational programs at the healing center.
Governor Yoon Kyunghee stated, "The selection for this public project is a valuable achievement made possible by the joint efforts of the administration and the residents," and added, "We will focus our administrative resources so that all residents affected by the wildfire can return to their daily lives as soon as possible."
