This specialized product development project is particularly significant as it reinterprets the aesthetics of traditional Buncheong ware with a modern sensibility using local materials from Goheung and represents the nation's first initiative to specialize in lifestyle ceramics.
During the meeting, key opinions were presented, including strengthening modern design sensibility, strategies for segmenting consumer groups, promoting the use and functionality of local materials, establishing diverse production systems, linking promotions with local festivals, and ensuring hygiene and safety as lifestyle ceramics.
In particular, the necessity of developing practical designs that maintain the traditional aesthetics of Buncheong ware while fitting modern living spaces was emphasized. Accordingly, based on the results of prototype development being conducted this year, the county plans to systematically establish design concepts and brand direction next year by promoting the "Goheung Buncheong Ware Product Branding" project.
Additionally, the county decided to diversify its production strategy by dividing consumer groups into a popular line focused on household and cafe use and a premium line of limited editions in collaboration with ceramic artists.
Governor Gong Youngmin, who attended the meeting, emphasized, "Our goal is to harmonize the tradition and modernity of Goheung Buncheong ware and develop it into a lifestyle ceramics brand that can be naturally used in daily life." He added, "Based on this, we will pursue systematic branding to strengthen the competitiveness of Goheung's ceramics industry and create a new cultural and economic model for Goheung County that links production, experience, and tourism."
Meanwhile, the county plans to complete prototype production by the end of this year based on the final report in December, and in 2026, to pursue integrated brand establishment and pilot production to supply public institutions and verify market response.
