This expo, now in its fifth year since its inception in 2019, is co-hosted by Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, its 18 cities and counties, and the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Resident Autonomy Association. A total of 137 resident autonomy (committee) associations from towns, townships, and neighborhoods across the province will participate, showcasing a variety of resident-led autonomy activities and stories of local change in one place.
On the morning of the first day, October 17, the '2025 Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Resident Autonomy Awards' will be held, where resident autonomy (committee) associations from seven cities and counties (Chuncheon, Donghae, Taebaek, Hongcheon, Pyeongchang, Jeongseon, Inje) that passed the preliminary rounds will present their achievements and best practices. The results of the judging will be announced during the afternoon opening ceremony, with awards presented and the excitement of the expo continuing throughout the day.
That afternoon, the opening ceremony, the Resident Autonomy Talk Concert, celebratory performances, and the 'Our Village Singer King Contest' will take place. The 'Resident Autonomy Talk Concert' is the first lecture program specifically for resident autonomy committee members in the province, aiming to enhance their autonomy capabilities through lectures on communication and leadership, while also providing a time for committee members to empathize and relax together.
On October 18, a competition among resident autonomy center programs from towns, townships, and neighborhoods across the province will be held, with 17 teams selected through city and county competitions showcasing their skills honed through cultural and arts classes.
In addition, throughout the event venue, more than 40 exhibition and experience spaces will be operated, including ▲exhibition booths of resident autonomy achievements by city and county ▲an exhibition hall of outstanding resident autonomy cases ▲a Gangwon autumn tourism promotion center ▲a local market for specialty products and a food market ▲and experience booths, offering visitors a wide variety of attractions and activities.
Yeo Jung-hyup, Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, stated, "This expo is a festival of autonomy where residents are the main protagonists, and a venue for cooperation and participation created together by the people of the province. I hope all residents will visit the event site and experience firsthand the changes being made by resident autonomy in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province."
