Over 3,000 Participants from 11 Towns and Townships Gather at Public Stadium Venues
Hamyang County in South Gyeongsang Province will host the 64th Hamyang County Residents Sports Festival on October 18 at the Public Stadium and Sports Park.
Now in its 64th year, the Hamyang County Residents Sports Festival is a community sports event focused more on communication and unity among residents than on competition, featuring activities in which people of all ages and genders can participate.
Hosted by the Hamyang County Sports Council and organized by member sports associations, this year’s festival will bring together around 3,000 residents, athletes, and expatriates from 11 towns and townships. The event will feature 15 sports, including track and field, soccer, ssireum (Korean wrestling), and tug-of-war, serving as a festival for communication and unity.
Preliminary events include the Residents Health Run (completed on the 11th) and a golf tournament (on the 16th). On the eve of the festival, October 17, the festival torch, lit at Cheollyeongbong, will be enshrined in the plaza in front of the county office.
The official opening ceremony will take place at 9 a.m. on October 18 at the Public Stadium, beginning with unique introductions and entrances by the 11 towns and townships, followed by a line dance performance, torch lighting, welcoming remarks, and congratulatory addresses.
Notably, this year’s opening ceremony will include the presentation of the “Hamyang County Residents Award,” which, due to strict screening standards, has not been awarded in recent years. This is expected to draw significant attention from residents.
Following the ceremony, 10 inter-township competitions and 5 club competitions, along with participatory events, will be held at the Public Stadium and other venues, creating a space for all residents to come together in unity.
Hamyang County and the Hamyang County Sports Council are making every effort to ensure a safe event, conducting a joint safety inspection of the venues on October 17 with the Hamyang Police Station, Hamyang Fire Station, and other relevant agencies. They are also thoroughly inspecting facilities to prepare for inclement weather, such as rain.
County Governor Jin Byeongyeong stated, “As rain is expected, we will thoroughly prepare for safety at the venues so that all residents can enjoy the festival with peace of mind. Through sports, we will create a healthier and more vibrant Hamyang where everyone is united.”
