BS Group Unveils "Solar City as Korea's First Energy Future City" at Haenam LPGA Tournament

BMW Ladies Championship as an Opportunity
Promoting the Solar City Vision to 60,000 Spectators
Accelerating RE100 Industrial Complex and AI Infrastructure Development

BS Group, which includes BS Hanyang and BS Industry, unveiled its vision for the “Energy Future City, Solar City” on October 15. Taking advantage of the BMW Ladies Championship, a U.S. LPGA Tour event held from October 16 to 19 at Pine Beach in Haenam, Jeollanam-do, owned by BS Group, the company will launch a large-scale promotional campaign targeting approximately 60,000 spectators.

During the tournament, BS Group will renovate the promotional center located at Solar City Country Club and operate an on-site booth. Visitors will be introduced to Solar City’s development vision, investment value, and industrial potential. Promotional videos and interactive experiences will be provided to raise awareness of Solar City among business partners, investors, and policymakers. The website has also been revamped from a simple information portal to a practical platform, strengthening functions such as land sales, corporate and investment attraction, and housing sales.

Simultaneous Realization of Industrial Restructuring, Regional Balanced Development, and Energy Transition

Solar City is a large-scale public-private urban development project under construction across 20.9 million square meters (approximately 6.32 million pyeong) in Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do. The project is jointly led by Jeollanam-do, Haenam-gun, and BS Group. BS Group has newly defined Solar City’s vision as a “strategic alternative city capable of simultaneously achieving industrial restructuring, regional balanced development, and energy transition.” The plan is to develop Korea’s first energy future city, integrating advanced industries and a high-quality residential environment, in response to the accelerating global energy transition and artificial intelligence (AI) revolution.

Solar City will be established as a leading K-renewable energy city where renewable energy is both produced and consumed, an AI industrial city equipped with artificial intelligence data centers and autonomous driving and robotics services, and an education and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Exhibitions) city featuring international convention centers, hotels, and educational facilities. It will also be developed as a garden city centered around “Sani Garden,” the first garden-style botanical garden in Jeollanam-do. The core goal is to create a sustainable city where energy and ecology coexist throughout the entire urban area.

5.4GW Solar Power to Be Supplied Directly to Industrial Complexes and Data Centers

To realize this vision, BS Group is accelerating the establishment of RE100 industrial complexes and AI infrastructure to create an advanced industrial hub, as well as building a self-sufficient city with residential, educational, medical, and cultural infrastructure. In Solar City, approximately 5.4GW of solar power will be supplied directly to industrial complexes and data centers, implementing a “local production and consumption energy self-sufficiency model.” The designation as an Opportunity Development Zone last year and selection as a candidate for a specialized distributed energy region this year have provided a foundation for policy support. In addition, specialized residential complexes are being developed, including apartment housing for 15,000 households, golf and village communities, and senior residences. The city will also feature settlement infrastructure such as the attraction of the prestigious U.S. private RCS International School and the construction of a university hospital-level medical facility.

A BS Group representative stated, “The new development vision for Solar City will serve as a national strategic hub model that aligns with the government’s carbon neutrality policy and its ambition to become one of the world’s top three AI powers. As a public-private partnership project, we will work closely and cooperatively with local governments such as Jeollanam-do and Haenam-gun to successfully promote urban development.”
