This public hearing has been organized to explore, together with citizens, the direction for building a railway-centered transportation infrastructure to promote balanced development in Gwangju City, address transportation-disadvantaged areas, and enhance citizens' transportation convenience.
Additionally, prior to establishing the city's railway network plan and conducting a preliminary feasibility study, the event aims to gather a wide range of opinions from both experts and citizens, thereby ensuring transparency and public interest in policy-making and laying the groundwork for social consensus.
Before collecting citizen feedback, three presentations will be delivered to help attendees better understand railroads. The topics are: ▲Current Status of Gwangju City's Railway Projects (Head of Gwangju City's Smart Transportation Department), ▲Understanding Railway Projects and Systems (Professor Paek Jongseon, Korea Railroad Corporation), and ▲The Necessity and Direction for Railway Construction (Dr. Kim Chaeman, Mobility Research Division, Gyeonggi Research Institute).
Following the presentations, there will be a Q&A session and an opportunity to hear citizens' opinions. Mayor Bang Sehwan, officials from relevant organizations, experts, and citizens from various fields are expected to attend and discuss the future direction of Gwangju City's railway development together.
In particular, with a representative from the Korea Railroad Corporation participating as a keynote speaker, the event is expected to provide valuable insights from the operator's perspective on the operation and service improvements of the Gyeonggang Line metropolitan railway.
Through this public hearing, the city plans to explore ways to expand transportation accessibility and revitalize the local economy through new railway construction, and to actively reflect citizens' suggestions and opinions in future policies.
Mayor Bang Sehwan stated, "Railroads will become a core means of transportation and the backbone of public transit in Gwangju City," adding, "I hope this public hearing will serve as an important first step in drawing that future together with our citizens."
