Minsu Kim Urges Donghoon Han to Leave the Party, Issues Sharp Criticism
"The Will of the Party Is the Will of the People... Remarks Disregard Party Members"
"A Political Party Is Not a Platform for Personal Ambition"
Minsu Kim, Supreme Council Member of the People Power Party, has urged former leader Donghoon Han to leave the party. In an interview on Channel A Radio's "Political Signal" on the 14th, Kim directly addressed Han, saying, "The will of the party is the will of the people, so prioritizing public sentiment over the party's will is an act of disregarding our party members." He added, "Donghoon Han's time has ended, and now is the time for Donghyeok Jang."
Kim continued, "A political party is a collective of ideology and beliefs, where like-minded people gather. If the party's identity or the will of the party does not align with you, it is right to leave and establish a centrist party." He further emphasized, "A political party is neither a social club nor a cooperative for fulfilling personal political ambitions. If you see the party as a platform for personal political gain, it is best to leave as soon as possible."
On the 10th, it was reported that Kyungwon Na, the head of the People Power Party's local election planning committee, proposed evaluating party loyalty during the candidate nomination process at a committee meeting. Na explained, "We must not nominate candidates without verifying how much they respect our party's values." It was also reported that Representative Jang expressed agreement with this view.
Previously, in a radio interview on the 13th, former leader Han was asked, "The leadership of the People Power Party says they will reflect loyalty to the party as a criterion for local election nominations." Han responded, "Good politics should be based on public sentiment rather than party loyalty," stating that public sentiment should be the main criterion for nominations.
Kim also reiterated, regarding a luncheon the previous day between senior party members and the leadership, where Chairman Jeonguihwa of the Standing Advisory Council urged, "To protect collapsing liberal democracy, there is no reason not to work with Seungmin Yoo, Junseok Lee, and Donghoon Han. I hope for a unifying politics like a melting pot," that "now is the time for Representative Donghyeok Jang."
He added, "The advisors have been away from practical politics for a long time, and during their era, at least the values of conservatism were firmly rooted within the party. Now, as conservative values are being shaken and even left-leaning ideas are mixed in, conservatism is continuously weakening. Therefore, calling for unconditional unity without any countermeasures is not the path conservatism should take."
