Pukyong National University to Hold Colloquium on "Marine Ecological Literacy in the Era of Climate Crisis"

"Marine Education Must Foster Ecological Sensitivity in the Era of Climate Crisis"

As the threats of the climate crisis and biodiversity loss intensify, an academic event exploring the intersection of marine ecology and education will be held in Busan.

The Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences at Pukyong National University (President Bae Sanghoon) announced on October 14 that it will host a colloquium titled "Invasive Species and Marine Education in the Era of Climate Crisis: Busan-Style Marine Ecological Literacy Strategies" on October 23 in Room 546 of the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Business Building.

This event is part of the university's key initiative, the "PKNU Moonshot Project," and aims to develop a regionally based marine ecological literacy education model centered on the marine city of Busan.

Professor Jung Jongwoo from the Department of Science Education at Ewha Womans University has been invited to the colloquium to give a lecture on the issue of invasive species threatening biodiversity in marine ecosystems and how this topic can be addressed educationally.

Professor Jung is recognized as a leading practitioner of ecology and climate crisis education based on scientific facts. In this lecture, he will focus on "invasive species," introducing directions for environmental sensitivity education and examples of its application in educational settings. In particular, he will discuss practical ways for students and citizens to participate in marine literacy initiatives, focusing on cases of ecological threats faced by the marine city of Busan.

Kim Changkyung, Director of the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences at Pukyong National University, stated, "Through this colloquium, we aim to propose regionally based educational strategies for responding to the climate crisis and to provide an opportunity to reexamine the role of local universities at the intersection of marine science, ecology, and education."

This event is supported by the Ministry of Education and Busan Metropolitan City, and is open to all, including Pukyong National University students, teachers, citizens, and researchers interested in marine education.
