World Steel Association General Assembly Held in Washington DC
"We Will Set an Example by Establishing Smart Safety Systems"
On October 12 (local time), Inhwa Jang, Chairman of POSCO Group, attended the World Steel Association General Assembly held in Washington DC, USA, where he discussed major industry issues with global steel industry leaders and emphasized the importance of establishing an advanced safety culture. The general assembly was attended by CEOs from leading global steel companies, including POSCO Group, Tata Steel, and Nippon Steel.

Chairman Jang shared the outcomes of the association's activities and explored future directions with the heads of major steel companies on topics such as the World Steel Association's safety and health policy, climate response strategies and decarbonization transition, international standardization of carbon emission allocation methods, and the development of next-generation steel body solutions to compete with aluminum.
Chairman Jang stated, "To create a safe workplace, it is essential to fundamentally eliminate potential hazards and ensure that all on-site employees, including those from partner companies, take responsibility for accident prevention." He added, "We will take the lead in developing and spreading best practices, such as establishing smart safety systems integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) technology."
Meanwhile, at the member company meeting held on October 13, POSCO was selected as an outstanding company in the Safety and Health Best Practice Contest. The Safety and Health Best Practice Contest is an annual program hosted by the World Steel Association, recognizing member companies for their exemplary safety initiatives. This year, POSCO received the top award in the Process Safety category for its "AI Smart Technology Based on Blast Furnace Tuyere Video." This proprietary technology developed by POSCO applies video AI and processing technology to the tuyere-equipment that comes into contact with molten material inside the blast furnace-to automatically detect abnormal conditions and promptly alert operators, thereby preventing equipment damage risks.
