SAMMI Metal, which is currently pursuing a merger with IBKS No. 22 SPAC, announced on October 14 that sales of products related to artificial intelligence (AI) data centers surged by approximately 30% year-on-year through July of this year, driven by soaring power demand at data centers in the United States and other countries.
SAMMI Metal supplies generator crankshafts to HD Hyundai Infracore, leveraging its proprietary technology and production facilities. After successfully localizing crankshafts for large land-based engines in 1984, the company began supplying products to HD Hyundai Infracore. The company explained that, recently, with the rapid increase in demand for generators for AI data centers, sales of related products have risen significantly.
The crankshaft plays a critical role in the generator engine, which is used in AI data centers, by transmitting power and regulating inertia to ensure optimal output. Based on continuous research and development, SAMMI Metal was the first in Korea to commercialize large crankshafts for generators and is currently the exclusive domestic supplier. Crankshafts are used not only in generators but also in various fields such as shipbuilding and defense.
A company representative stated, "Recently, the United States has begun government-led construction of AI data centers in earnest, which has led to a sharp increase in demand for generators and engines. Based on our exclusive supply reference for generator crankshafts to HD Hyundai Infracore, we have seen a significant expansion in orders this year."
He added, "As sales related to crankshafts have increased sharply in the second half of the year, we expect continued growth in performance related to AI data centers this year. HD Hyundai Infracore supplies engines to many U.S. generator manufacturers, and as related sales expand significantly, we anticipate further benefits."
