The Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7, Samsung Electronics' foldable smartphones released in July, are enjoying strong success and positive reviews in the global market. The record-breaking performance of these foldable phones is cited as one of the reasons behind Samsung Electronics' recent earnings surprise.
According to the IT industry and financial sector on October 14, Samsung Electronics' Mobile eXperience (MX) Division maintained solid results, driven by increased sales of new foldable products. Of Samsung's operating profit of 12.1 trillion won in the third quarter of this year, it is estimated that more than 3 trillion won was generated by the MX Division, which is responsible for the mobile business. This represents an increase of over 10% compared to the same period last year.
The Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7 set record sales, driving strong performance. During the domestic pre-order period from July 15 to 21, the two devices sold 1.04 million units, marking the highest pre-order volume ever for Galaxy foldables. Previously, Samsung's record for most foldable pre-orders was held by the Fold5 and Flip5, which sold 1.02 million units during a one-week pre-order period in August 2023.
The Fold7 and Flip7 also received positive feedback from US consumers. According to Samsung Electronics' announcement at the end of July, both devices saw pre-orders in the US increase by more than 25% compared to the previous generation. In particular, the Fold7 set the highest pre-order record in the history of the Fold series in the US. After the official US launch on July 25, both devices continued to outperform the previous generation, with order volumes exceeding their predecessors by more than 25%.

Drew Blackard, Senior Vice President of Mobile Product Management at Samsung Electronics America, stated, "The seventh generation of foldables delivers a user experience unmatched by any other device," adding, "All of this is now translating into record-breaking results."
Consumer Reports in the United States gave the Fold7 and Flip7 the highest score of 81 points each in its foldable phone quality evaluation. Consumer Reports praised the Fold7 for its large display with excellent outdoor readability, improved durability, and AI-powered camera performance.
This month, at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit exhibition space in Gyeongju, Samsung plans to unveil its new foldable form factor smartphone, the 'Tri-Fold,' for the first time and is expected to launch it in the market as early as next month. The Tri-Fold offers the portability of a standard smartphone when folded on both sides, while providing a tablet-sized large display when unfolded. Due to its more complex manufacturing process compared to existing foldables, the retail price is expected to be around 4 million won.
