"Small Change, Big Miracle"... KoreaTech Faculty and Staff Gift 1,500 Breakfasts to Students

Faculty and staff at Korea University of Technology and Education in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, have touched hearts by donating their unused mobile meal voucher balances to support the "1,000-Won Breakfast" initiative for students.

The "Payco Balance Donation Campaign," organized by the university's cooperative association over the course of a month, raised 1.5 million won. This amount was delivered as meal coupons to 1,500 students, spreading a warm spirit of sharing across the campus.

The university cooperative announced on the 13th that it had delivered the 1.5 million won, collected from faculty and staff who used the Payco app for payments at on-campus cafeterias and cafes, to the student council.

About 30 faculty and staff members voluntarily participated in this month-long campaign, continuing the spirit of giving.

The entire donation will be used to support the "1,000-Won Breakfast" program for students. The student council plans to distribute 1,500 meal coupons at the student cafeteria during dinner time on the 15th.

Lee Joomyung, head of the Academic Information Team and the largest donor, said, "I am proud to contribute even a small amount to ensure students have a hearty breakfast," adding, "I hope this spirit of community will spread throughout the campus."

Kim Byunggi, chairperson of the cooperative association, stated, "Faculty and staff collecting mobile balances to support students' healthy meals is a great example of practicing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management," and expressed hope that "this will serve as an opportunity to spread the values of sharing and solidarity among all university members."

Student council president Jang Hanseok (senior, Department of Energy and Advanced Materials Chemistry) said, "In these economically challenging times, the heartfelt support from faculty and staff is a great encouragement," adding, "Such encouragement will provide positive energy to students."

Meanwhile, Korea University of Technology and Education has been running the "1,000-Won Breakfast" program for 11 years to promote a breakfast culture among students and help improve their academic performance. The university plans to continue implementing various sharing programs to further enhance student welfare and foster a culture of community.
