People Power Party Proposes "Special Prosecutor Bill on Violent Investigations by Min Junggi" as Official Party Policy
Group Memorial for Yangpyeong County Official Held After Emergency Lawmakers' Meeting
The People Power Party has launched a counteroffensive against Special Prosecutor Min Junggi, including submitting a special prosecutor bill as an official party stance, following the suicide of a Yangpyeong County government official who was under investigation by Special Prosecutor Min Junggi regarding the Kim Keonhee case.
Jang Donghyuk, leader of the People Power Party, stated at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on October 13, "We must ensure that Special Prosecutor Min Junggi is summoned to the National Assembly audit to expose the reckless actions of the Lee Jaemyung administration." On this day, all party leaders attended the meeting dressed in black attire as a sign of mourning. This was to prepare countermeasures regarding Special Prosecutor Min Junggi and to conduct a group memorial for the Yangpyeong County official after holding an emergency general meeting of lawmakers.

The People Power Party criticized the special prosecutor team's coercive investigation and insisted that a parliamentary audit and the submission of a special prosecutor bill are necessary to uncover the truth. Members of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee from the People Power Party have applied to summon Special Prosecutor Min Junggi as an additional witness for the audit, and the party plans to officially propose the "Special Prosecutor Bill on Violent Investigations by Special Prosecutor Min Junggi" as its party policy.
Not only the Kim Keonhee special prosecutor, but also the special prosecutors for insurrection and Chae Haebyeong are being targeted. Song Eonseok, floor leader of the People Power Party, said, "The three major special prosecutor teams have degenerated into monstrous groups that demonstrate the violence of the Lee Jaemyung administration," and urged, "Immediately halt investigations that trample on human rights."
The People Power Party also set agreement on the special prosecutor bill as a precondition for holding a plenary session during the parliamentary audit period. While the Democratic Party of Korea proposed to convene a plenary session on October 15 to process over 70 non-contentious livelihood bills, the People Power Party maintains that "agreement on the special prosecutor bill must come first." To discuss this, the floor leaders of both parties plan to meet later today under the auspices of National Assembly Speaker Woo Wonshik.
