Doosan Enerbility Makes First Gas Turbine Export, Supplying Two Units to U.S. Data Center

Synergy with U.S. Subsidiary for After-Sales Service
Full-Scale Entry into the Americas Market
Responding to AI-Driven Power Demand

Doosan Enerbility will supply domestically produced gas turbines to the United States, known as the "birthplace of gas turbines." This marks the company's first export of gas turbines.

On October 13, Doosan Enerbility announced that it had signed a contract to supply two large-scale 380MW gas turbines to a major American information technology (IT) company. The company plans to deliver the gas turbines to the United States by the end of next year. With this contract, Doosan has secured its first overseas export record for gas turbines developed with domestic technology.

In 2019, Doosan Enerbility succeeded in localizing large-scale gas turbines for power generation through collaboration between industry, academia, and research institutes in Korea, becoming the fifth company in the world to secure its own proprietary technology. Since then, the turbines have completed over 15,000 hours of demonstration operation at the Gimpo Combined Heat and Power Plant. Including this latest contract, Doosan has signed a total of eight gas turbine supply agreements, thereby expanding its business scope.

This order is attributed to the surge in power demand for data centers resulting from the spread of artificial intelligence (AI). Recently, large data centers worldwide have found it difficult to meet their power needs solely through existing power grids and are increasingly seeking to install their own power generation facilities. Doosan Enerbility is strengthening its market strategy by focusing on its gas turbine models to address these global shifts in demand.

It has also been noted that Doosan Enerbility's U.S. subsidiary, Doosan Turbo Machinery Services (DTS), played a significant role in securing this contract. Based in Houston, DTS specializes in gas turbine services and will be responsible for the entire service cycle in the U.S. market, including installation, maintenance, and repair. Doosan plans to use DTS as a base to actively enter the power and industrial gas turbine service markets across the Americas.

Son Seungwoo, Head of the Power Services Business Group at Doosan Enerbility, stated, "This contract marks a historic moment as Korea transitions from being an importer to an exporter of gas turbines. We will strictly adhere to quality and delivery schedules to build trust and further strengthen our presence in the U.S. and global markets."
