A man who assaulted an incumbent city council member while intoxicated on the streets of Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, has been apprehended by the police.
On October 13, the Seoul Gangnam Police Station announced that a man in his 40s, identified as A, was arrested on the spot and is being investigated on charges of inflicting bodily injury.
According to the police, at approximately 11:30 p.m. on October 11, A, while intoxicated, allegedly chased and assaulted B, a woman in her 40s who is an incumbent Seoul city council member affiliated with the People Power Party, by strangling her on a street in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
It is reported that during police questioning, A stated, "I committed the crime for no reason because I was drunk."
The police plan to investigate A without detention.
