Suwon City to Raise Bus Fares Starting on the 25th

Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province will raise bus fares starting on the 25th.

On the 13th, Suwon City announced that it will increase fares for city, village, and metropolitan buses beginning on the 25th. The decision was made to help ease the financial difficulties of transportation companies caused by rising prices, increased transportation costs, and a decline in ridership, as well as to maintain stable transportation services.

Previously, both Gyeonggi Province and Suwon City reviewed and approved the bus fare adjustment plans through their respective Consumer Policy Deliberation Committees in August and September.

Accordingly, based on transportation card payments, fares will be raised as follows: general city buses and village buses will increase from 1,450 won to 1,650 won for adults, from 1,010 won to 1,160 won for teenagers, and from 730 won to 830 won for children; city seat-type buses will increase from 2,450 won to 2,650 won for adults, from 1,820 won to 1,860 won for teenagers, and from 1,230 won to 1,330 won for children; direct seat-type and metropolitan express (M) buses will increase from 2,800 won to 3,200 won for adults, from 1,960 won to 2,300 won for teenagers, and from 1,400 won to 1,600 won for children. The adjusted fares will take effect from the first bus on October 25.

A Suwon City official stated, "The financial difficulties of the transportation industry are worsening due to rising transportation costs and the departure of transportation workers," adding, "We hope that this fare adjustment will improve the management conditions of the village bus sector and help resolve workforce shortages."
