“Sunset Opening Ceremony” on October 16
Announcing a New Leap Forward for the City’s Healing Festival
Seo District in Gwangju Metropolitan City will hold the opening ceremony of the 10th Gwangju Seochang Silver Grass Festival along the Yeongsan River at 5 p.m. on October 16, coinciding with sunset.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the Seochang Silver Grass Festival has established itself as Gwangju’s only natural landscape festival and a healing event in the heart of the city, thanks to the love and support of its citizens.
The opening ceremony, themed “A Journey to Autumn Delivered by Silver Grass,” will look back on the past decade and declare a new leap forward for the next ten years. The stage will be designed with a “cruise ship” concept, symbolizing the start of an emotional autumn journey where silver grass, sunset, and the Yeongsan River come together.
The opening parade will feature about 300 residents and 10 local organizations, marching along the silver grass path to announce the cruise’s departure. The children’s choir will open the festival by singing the original song “Sunset,” and all participants will wave colorful scarves in a performance celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Silver Grass Festival, expressing a sense of community unity.
Seo District Mayor Kim Ikang stated, “The Seochang Silver Grass Festival has become a symbol of ecological tourism in the city over the past ten years through citizen participation and affection,” adding, “We are taking a bold first step as we dream of a new leap forward as a representative natural and cultural festival for the region.”
Meanwhile, the 10th Gwangju Seochang Silver Grass Festival will run for four days from October 16 to 19 along the Yeongsan River (from Geukrak Bridge to Seochang Bridge, including the Nanum Nuri Forest area). The festival will feature a variety of programs designed to stimulate all five senses, including Nanum Nuri Sunset 530, Soundscape Experience, SG Dining, the Zoning Out Contest, and the Silver Grass Exploration Team.
