FBI Launches Investigation... Some Suspects Arrested
Across the state of Mississippi, a series of shootings occurred immediately after high school homecoming football games, resulting in at least eight deaths and many injuries.
According to major foreign media outlets such as AP and CNN, around midnight on October 11 (local time), shootings broke out almost simultaneously in three small towns: Leland in northwestern Mississippi, Heidelberg in the east, and Rolling Fork in the west.
The most severe damage occurred in Leland, which has a population of less than 4,000.
In this area, a shooting took place during a street event following a high school homecoming football game, leaving between four and six people dead and at least twelve injured. Citing statements from the local mayor, CNN reported that "a total of 16 people were shot, with four fatalities." Four of the injured are in critical condition and were transported to a nearby major hospital.
Authorities have not yet released the identity or motive of the suspect, nor have they confirmed any arrests. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Mississippi State Police have joined the investigation.
Around the same time, another shooting occurred at Heidelberg High School, a small town of about 600 residents located approximately 300 kilometers from Leland, resulting in two deaths. Local police stated that one of the victims was pregnant. The suspect has been arrested.

Another shooting took place in Rolling Fork, Sharkey County, in western Mississippi. Here, too, the shooting happened after a high school football game, and the sheriff's office reported that two suspects have been arrested.
All of these incidents are connected to local high school homecoming events, but it has not yet been confirmed whether the crimes are related to each other.
Derrick Simmons, a member of the Mississippi State Legislature, stated, "It was just a simple event, but guns are circulating far too easily," adding, "Senseless gun violence is destroying our communities."
Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves said, "We are praying for the victims and their families," and emphasized, "Those responsible will be brought to justice."
In the south-central United States, it is a tradition every fall for local high schools to invite alumni and community members to homecoming football games. However, in recent years, a series of youth and gun-related incidents have heightened concerns about public safety surrounding these local events.
