'No Nobel Peace Prize' Trump Says "Wouldn't Be Strange If Machado Gave It to Me" and Looks Ahead to Next Year

"I Saved Millions of Lives," Stresses His Eligibility for the Prize
Highlights Achievements Including Israel-Hamas Ceasefire

Rather than expressing disappointment over not winning the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, U.S. President Donald Trump voiced optimism about his chances of receiving the award next year.

On October 10 (local time), when asked about the Nobel Peace Prize at the White House, President Trump began by saying, "Some people say I should have been selected, considering what we have accomplished." He continued, "But I am satisfied knowing that I have saved millions of lives."

He also remarked, "This year's award may be based on what was done in 2024," adding, "At that time, I was running for election." This suggests that, since he began his full presidential term in 2025, his exclusion from the Nobel Prize was a matter of timing.

President Trump particularly emphasized his role in mediating and resolving various conflicts. He claimed that, including the recent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, he "peacefully ended a total of eight wars," arguing that he is fully qualified as a Nobel Prize candidate.

An interesting anecdote was also revealed. Maria Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader who won this year's Nobel Peace Prize, reportedly called President Trump and said, "I accept this award in your honor. You deserve it." In response, Trump said, "She was a very kind person. I didn't ask her to give me the award, but it wouldn't have been strange if she had," he added with a laugh.

On this day, Trump also focused on highlighting his domestic policy achievements beyond the Nobel Prize. He announced the details of a drug price reduction agreement reached with multinational pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, stating, "From now on, this company will supply all medications to Medicaid, the U.S. health insurance program for low-income individuals, at the lowest price."

The "Most Favored Nation (MFN) price" mentioned here refers to the lowest price that a pharmaceutical company offers to any advanced country outside the United States. President Trump further explained that AstraZeneca will invest $50 billion in the United States over the next five years and, in return, will receive tariff benefits for three years.

This is the second major achievement announced following last month's drug price agreement with Pfizer. At that time, Trump had secured a promise to supply all new medications at the most favored nation price.

Trump has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with the Nobel Prize, claiming it is "politically biased." He has been especially vocal in criticizing former President Barack Obama's win, stating publicly, "I am more deserving than he is." NBC News reported that since the second half of 2024, Trump has made several remarks about the Nobel Prize, and his aides also believe "President Trump has achieved internationally recognized results in peace mediation."

Ultimately, Trump's attention is now focused on the coming year. He stated, "The day will come when I am judged fairly," and added, "It is right that the person who achieves true peace receives the award."
