From October, Ski Experience Offered Nationwide
Off-Season Visiting Pyeongchang Olympic Ski School for Schools Across Korea
Free Ski Camp for 240 Elementary Students Nationwide from January to February
Pyeongchang County in Gangwon Province and the Pyeongchang Legacy Foundation (Chairman Shim Jaeguk) announced on October 10 that they will launch an expanded version of the 'Nundongi Passport' program, called 'Nundongi Passport ver.2.0', building on the valuable legacy of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. The program will be significantly broadened to operate on a national scale.
'Nundongi Passport ver.2.0', which begins this year, is characterized by expanding the existing program from within Pyeongchang County to the entire country, while maintaining the original local program. It will be operated in three main formats.
The 'Nundongi OJT Workshop' is designed for students who have participated consecutively since 2023, aiming to discover and nurture local talent through career exploration in the field of winter sports. The workshop ensures continuity for students who have steadily developed their skills through Seasons 1, 2, and 3, and supports them in growing into future winter sports prospects by providing more systematic and professional ski training. After completing the OJT, students may participate as assistant instructors in the Snow Sports Camp, taking part in the entire program.
The 'Snow Sports Camp' is an intensive ski training program held over three days and two nights at an actual ski resort, under the guidance of professional instructors. Participants are selected from those who joined the off-season Pyeongchang Olympic Ski School. All participants can join free of charge, allowing them to experience skiing in depth without financial burden.
The highlight of this program, the 'Off-Season Visiting Pyeongchang Olympic Ski School', is designed for regions with declining populations and socially disadvantaged groups. It brings ski instructors directly to schools to teach fundamental skiing skills. The program, previously limited to Pyeongchang County, is now expanding nationwide to areas such as the Chungcheong and North Gyeongsang regions, where ski infrastructure is lacking. It aims to provide approximately 2,000 students with the opportunity to learn skiing.
Since its launch in 2023, the program has received enthusiastic responses from local elementary school students over three years, achieving a participant satisfaction rate of over 95%. In the first season in 2023, about 100 students participated, with a 99% satisfaction rate. In the 2024 Season 2, 85% of previous participants returned, and in the 2025 Season 3, an impressive 96% expressed their intention to participate again, demonstrating steadily increasing trust and satisfaction in the program.
Shim Jaeguk, Mayor of Pyeongchang County and Chairman of the Pyeongchang Legacy Foundation, stated, "It is very meaningful to share the precious legacy of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics with children across the country, building on the achievements of the past three years." He added, "We expect that this youth development initiative, which began in Pyeongchang, the mecca of the Winter Olympics, will spread nationwide and greatly contribute to the advancement of snow sports in Korea." He also mentioned, "In addition to this, the Pyeongchang Legacy Foundation is running separate programs for local children to further promote the spread of winter snow sports and nurture young talent."
The Nundongi Passport ver.2.0 program will run from October through February next year. Detailed information and applications can be found on the official website. In addition, the original 'Nundongi Passport', which serves as the foundation for ver.2.0, will continue for lower-grade children within Pyeongchang County, with recruitment for Season 4 participants scheduled for December.
