2,500 Residents Participate, Gathering Practical, Everyday Suggestions
Yeongdeungpo District in Seoul (Mayor Choi Hogwon) announced on October 10 that it had widely collected residents’ opinions through the “Outreach Communication Meeting” held from late August to early October. The meetings were held by visiting one of the district’s 18 neighborhoods each day, which increased the focus on-site.

The purpose of these meetings was to directly hear about the daily inconveniences and suggestions from residents and to reflect these in next year’s budget and policies. A total of approximately 2,500 residents participated. This year, the participation of local community leaders was expanded, resulting in a greater variety of practical, everyday suggestions from residents.
Among the major suggestions received through the meetings, issues such as ventilation fan noise, maintenance of street trees in residential areas, replacement of old clean houses, enforcement against smoking, and installation of no-smoking signs have already been promptly addressed by the district.
Additionally, various proposals from residents-including the construction of a swimming pool, expansion of childcare facilities, improvement of senior centers, support for leisure programs for the elderly, safety management of gosiwons (small rooming houses), expansion of summer shade canopies, installation of ginkgo fruit collectors, creation of pocket gardens, and replacement of old sidewalk blocks-will be reflected in next year’s budget or implemented in stages.
Yeongdeungpo District records all suggestions on management cards for systematic tracking until completion. The district also plans to notify participating residents of the progress and results via SMS around 15 days before or after each meeting, thereby enhancing administrative trust.
Meanwhile, the district continues to strengthen on-site communication with residents by regularly holding “Parent Communication Meetings” at 22 elementary, middle, and high schools, “Open Resident Meetings” at 18 apartment complexes, and “Redevelopment Project Resident Communication Meetings” in major redevelopment and reconstruction areas.
Mayor Choi Hogwon stated, “The voices you share directly from your daily lives serve as a valuable compass for district administration,” and added, “We will continue to actively reflect residents’ opinions through open communication and create changes that our residents can truly feel.”
