Borimsa Music Festival, Book Camp, and Literature Award Ceremony
Relay Concludes with Commemorative Event on December 10
Jangheung County in Jeonnam Province announced on October 10 that it will hold a variety of literary events from this month through December to mark the first anniversary of author Han Kang's Nobel Prize in Literature. The events will include the Borimsa Music Festival, a book camp, and the Jangheung Literature Award ceremony.
On October 10 last year, the Swedish Academy officially announced Han Kang as the recipient of the Nobel Prize in Literature. It was a historic moment when Korean literature rose to the center of world literary history. Jangheung County has organized these events to relive the excitement and joy of that time and to further establish its identity as a 'Nobel Literature City.'
The literary relay will kick off on the 18th with the 'Nobel Literature City Borimsa Bijarim Music Festival.' The festival will blend literature and music against the backdrop of the thousand-year-old Borimsa Temple and the Bijarim Forest. From the 24th to the 25th, a book camp will be held at the former Jangheung Prison Papillonzip, with 60 middle school students from Jeonnam Province and literary figures participating.
From October 31 to November 2, both the 'Literature Forest' and the Jeonnam Content Fair will take place simultaneously along the Tamjingang Riverside and at Papillonzip. Residents and tourists alike will be able to enjoy literature, travel, and experiential content together.
At Jeongnamjin Library, a month-long Han Kang Reading Campaign will be held starting in November. Participants will read Han Kang's works, share their impressions, and reflect on the value of literature.
Finally, on December 10, a commemorative event will be held to mark the first anniversary of Han Kang's Nobel Prize in Literature.
