The Swedish Academy announced on October 9 (local time) that Krusnerhorker Laszlo has been selected as this year’s Nobel laureate in literature.

Krusnerhorker made his debut in 1985 with "Satantango." In 2015, he became the first Hungarian writer to win the International Booker Prize (now the Booker Prize), and he has consistently been mentioned as a contender for the Nobel Prize in Literature.

The Nobel Prize in Literature is awarded to an individual who has produced the most outstanding work in an ideal direction within the field of literature. Since its inception in 1901, it has been awarded a total of 118 times as of this year. The number of recipients stands at 122, and unlike the science categories, there have only been four instances of joint winners: in 1904, 1917, 1966, and 1974. No prize was awarded during periods such as World War I and World War II.

Since 2017, with few exceptions, male and female laureates have alternated almost every year. Last year, Korean novelist Han Kang became the 18th female recipient in the history of the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Most previous winners have been from the United States and Europe. France leads with 16 laureates, followed by the United States with 13, the United Kingdom with 12, Sweden with 8, and Germany with 8.

The youngest recipient is British author Rudyard Kipling, who wrote "The Jungle Book" and won the prize in 1907 at the age of 41. The oldest recipient is British writer Doris Lessing, who received the award in 2007 at the age of 87.
