Jeon Hyunhee:
"Cho Heedae Must Confidently Address Public Concerns"
Jeon Hyunhee, Senior Supreme Council Member of the Democratic Party of Korea, on October 9 criticized the People Power Party for continuing its attacks over President Lee Jaemyung’s appearance on the entertainment program "Please Take Care of My Refrigerator," saying, "Even during the nation’s biggest holiday, the People Power Party is fueling political strife. They might as well change their name to 'People’s Burden.'"

On the last day of the holiday, Jeon held a press conference at the National Assembly regarding public sentiment during Chuseok and future tasks, stating, "President Lee Jaemyung and his spouse’s appearance on 'Please Take Care of My Refrigerator,' which recorded the highest viewership ratings ever, was a strategic choice to promote the globalization of K-Food."
She went on to say, "The People Power Party, obsessed with baseless criticism of a president who is striving to open new export channels for K-Food, is only causing stress for the public. They are in dire need of some table manners education." She added, "The People Power Party, which disrupted Chuseok dinner tables with false agitation and the spread of misinformation, should apologize to the people and the president and be held accountable under the law."
Regarding the People Power Party’s criticism of the Korea-U.S. tariff negotiations, she questioned, "Is the People Power Party willing to abandon the national interest and hold even diplomacy hostage for partisan gain, just to see the government fail? Whose party are they, anyway?"
On the fire at the National Information Resources Service, she remarked, "We must not forget that the fundamental responsibility lies with the Yoon Sukyeol administration, which neglected a facility in a state of ruin." She continued, "The People Power Party urgently needs treatment for its amnesia, as it ignores the Board of Audit and Inspection’s recommendations and redundancy measures, covers up the failures of the previous administration, and only blames others."
Addressing Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Heedae, who was selected as a witness for the National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee audit, Jeon stated, "It has been customary for the Chief Justice to attend the audit, deliver opening remarks, and leave with the committee chair’s consent. This time, however, the committee is unlikely to approve his departure."
She further emphasized, "The Chief Justice is naturally obligated to answer questions from the National Assembly on behalf of the people. At a time when public distrust of the judiciary is extremely high, it is the Chief Justice’s duty to stand before the public and respond to national concerns."
When asked by reporters whether impeachment would be pursued if Chief Justice Cho does not appear, she replied, "We have not considered that," but added, "That is for the people to judge."
Regarding the judicial reform bill being prepared by the ruling party, she said, "I understand that the special committee has compiled various opinions and produced a first draft." As for whether the so-called 'trial petition'-which would allow constitutional complaints against court rulings-would be included, she said, "Nothing has been finalized at the party level."
