The group BTS's signature song "Spring Day" ranked 37th on Rolling Stone's list of the "Greatest Songs of the 21st Century."
Yonhap News reported that on October 8 (local time), Rolling Stone announced its selection of the "250 Greatest Songs of the 21st Century" on its official website.
"Spring Day" by BTS achieved the highest ranking among Korean songs, coming in at 37th place. Rolling Stone praised the song, stating, "'Spring Day' is a signature track from BTS, one of the biggest pop groups of the 21st century. The emotions of healing and hope that bloom from loss resonate transcendently. This song is an iconic work that propelled BTS's global breakthrough and demonstrates the powerful cohesion of their music."
"Spring Day" is the title track of the repackaged second studio album "You Never Walk Alone," released in February 2017. The song features an alternative hip-hop style that blends rock and electronic elements, delivering a message of never losing hope while waiting to reunite with a distant friend.
This song became the first in Melon's history to surpass 1 billion cumulative streams. It also set the record for the longest run on the daily chart, remaining there consistently for 7 years and 11 months since its release. Additionally, the album featuring this song debuted at number 61 on the Billboard 200, the main album chart in the United States, as of March 4, 2017, and remained on the chart for two consecutive weeks.
Several other K-pop musicians were also included in this ranking. BLACKPINK ranked 142nd with their 2018 hit "DDU-DU DDU-DU," Girls' Generation ranked 170th with "Gee," and NewJeans ranked 206th with "Hype Boy." Rolling Stone described "DDU-DU DDU-DU" as "the song that best exemplifies the K-pop craze that swept America in the 2010s."
Meanwhile, Missy Elliott's "Get Ur Freak On" took the top spot on the list of the 250 Greatest Songs of the 21st Century, while Beyonc?'s "Crazy in Love" ranked third. Songs by Britney Spears and Taylor Swift also made it into the upper ranks.
