Yoon Hojung, Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, visited the Daejeon Center of the National Information Resources Service (NIRS) on October 8 to inspect the recovery efforts of government information systems that were disrupted by a fire.

Minister Yoon toured the computer room that was damaged by the fire to examine the progress of the recovery and discussed support measures for the swift normalization of the systems. He also reviewed recovery plans, including securing additional IT resources, building new infrastructure, and relocating the destroyed systems to the Daegu Center.

The government plans to transfer some of the systems lost in the fire to the private cloud (PPP) sector at the Daegu Center, while systems affected by dust will be moved to other computer rooms within the Daejeon Center for rapid service restoration.

Minister Yoon visited a temporary office to encourage staff members who were on emergency duty during the Chuseok holiday, and promised careful support to help alleviate their heavy workloads and psychological stress.

The government has mobilized a total of about 960 personnel, including 220 public officials, 574 on-site business staff, and around 160 personnel for dust removal and technical support, to focus on restoring the information systems throughout the Chuseok holiday period.

Minister Yoon stated, "In order to quickly resolve the inconveniences in administrative services experienced by the public, we will make every effort to restore the systems and prevent recurrence by utilizing all available resources, including collaboration with private cloud providers."

He added, "I deeply appreciate the dedication of the staff working emergency shifts even during the holiday, and I will do my best to improve their working conditions."
