2,100 Doses Available for Free Vaccination
Program May End Early If Supplies Run Out
Sejong City will provide free rabies vaccinations in response to the increase in outdoor activities for companion animals during the autumn season.
Rabies is a fatal zoonotic disease that occurs when a person is bitten by an animal carrying the virus. To prevent rabies, companion animals must receive a rabies vaccination once a year.
Any Sejong City resident who owns a companion animal that is at least three months old can receive the vaccination for free from October 13 to October 24, 2025. In urban and town areas, vaccinations are available at 15 designated partner animal hospitals. In rural areas, residents can receive the vaccination from a dedicated veterinarian upon separate request.
The list of partner animal hospitals can be found in the announcements section of the city hall website. Residents in rural areas can apply by calling their local administrative welfare center. Companion animals that already received the vaccination in the first half of this year do not need to be vaccinated again.
Notably, dogs must be registered to receive the free vaccination. If the dog is not registered, owners can complete the registration on the day of vaccination. If the companion animal is pregnant or has any abnormal health condition, vaccination is not possible, so owners should consult with a veterinarian in advance.
The number of available vaccines is limited to 2,100 doses, and the free vaccination program may end early if all doses are used up.
An Byungcheol, Director of the Animal Policy Division, stated, "As outdoor activities with dogs become more frequent in autumn, we ask for citizens' attention to rabies prevention," and added, "We encourage active participation in rabies vaccination to protect the health of both companion animals and citizens."
