Women's Bracelet 'Gaffer Bangle' Made of Resin
Features Phrases Inside and Out, Closely Resembling Adhesive Tape
French luxury brand Balenciaga, renowned for its bold and unconventional designs, has once again sparked attention by releasing an expensive bracelet reminiscent of box tape.
According to the fashion industry on October 6, Balenciaga recently unveiled the women's "Gaffer Bangle," made of transparent resin, at Paris Fashion Week. This bracelet is currently being sold for 1,620,000 won on the brand's official Korean website.
This product, crafted from transparent resin, features the phrase "Balenciaga Adhesive" printed both inside and outside. As a result, it has been dubbed the "box tape bracelet." Balenciaga explained that the bracelet is made from plastic that complies with international regulations, and noted that deformation or marks may occur with standard use, but these are not defects due to the characteristics of the material and production technique. For care, the company recommends wiping the bracelet with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding the use of harsh chemicals during cleaning. It should not be exposed to direct sunlight or heat sources for extended periods, and impacts with hard surfaces should be avoided.
Resin is a material made from plant-based resins or synthetic polymers, known for its high transparency and durability. However, controversy continues over the bracelet's high price, especially given its design's strong resemblance to box tape.
Products Imitating Trash Bags, Coffee Cups, and Potato Chip Bags
This is not the first time Balenciaga has released everyday-item-inspired products.
In 2022, the brand launched the "Trash Pouch," inspired by garbage bags, for $1,790 (approximately 2,330,000 won at the time). Last year, it released a wallet shaped like a potato chip bag for $1,750 (about 2,360,000 won), again stirring controversy. Earlier this year, in April, Balenciaga introduced the "9 AM Clutch," modeled after a coffee cup, for $5,750 in the United States and 8,070,000 won in Korea, which drew significant attention. In August, the brand followed up with a men's bag designed to resemble a standard waste bag, priced at 1,470,000 won, continuing to challenge conventional notions of luxury with a series of inventive products.
