Woman Dies of Malnutrition After Strictly Following Fruitarian Diet

A Polish woman in her twenties was found dead in a hotel room in Bali, Indonesia. The cause of death was malnutrition. She was a fruitarian who ate nothing but fruit, and it was determined that she died after strictly adhering to her diet.

Recently, the British media outlet The Sun reported that Polish woman Karolina Ksi??ek, 27, died after maintaining an extreme diet. At the time of her death, her weight was reportedly only 22 kilograms.

Ksi??ek, who followed a fruitarian diet consisting solely of raw fruit, had traveled to Bali to meet others who shared her beliefs, but was found dead in her hotel room. Before her death, she had become so weak that she could barely support herself. She showed serious signs of health problems due to a lack of essential nutrients, including yellowing fingernails and decaying teeth.

While staying at the hotel, Ksi??ek requested that only fruit be delivered to her room. The hotel manager was accustomed to guests following vegan diets and did not think much of it. However, staff members became concerned after noticing her emaciated appearance, and one staff member testified that he had to help her into her room. Ultimately, hotel staff, worried about her health, repeatedly recommended that she seek medical attention, but Ksi??ek reportedly refused.

According to a friend who spoke to the media, Ksi??ek reportedly suffered from osteoporosis and hypoalbuminemia. She also struggled with anorexia throughout her adolescence, and after enrolling at the prestigious University of Leeds in the United Kingdom, she became obsessed with yoga and veganism. After starting her fruitarian diet, she frequently posted photos of her gaunt appearance on social media, prompting her parents to travel to the UK to urge her to seek treatment.

The Sun quoted nutrition experts, pointing out that this case highlights the dangers of extreme wellness trends. In the United Kingdom alone, approximately 1.25 million people are reported to suffer from eating disorders, with 75% of them being women.
