Strong Winds and Rain Disrupt Sea Routes in Jeonnam on First Day of Chuseok Holiday, Causing Concerns for Homebound Travelers

High Seas Warning Issued for Mokpo and Other Areas in Jeonnam Province
Operations Suspended on 28 Routes and 42 Passenger Ships

On October 3, the first day of the Chuseok holiday, strong winds and rain hit various parts of Jeonnam Province, raising concerns about inconveniences for travelers returning home as passenger ship operations were suspended.


According to Jeonnam Province and other authorities, as of 2:00 p.m. on October 3, a high seas warning was in effect for maritime areas including Mokpo, Jeonnam, resulting in the suspension of operations on 28 routes and 42 passenger ships.


Currently, three main regions are affected by the suspension. In the Mokpo area, nine routes are suspended: Mokpo-Hongdo, Songgong-Heuksan, Docho-Ui, Jindo-Seogeochado, Yuldok-Jindo, Jindo Shwimi-Gasa, Yeonggwang Hyanghwa-Songi, Gyema-Anma, and Hyanghwa-Nakwol. In the Wando area, six routes are suspended: Wando-Yeo, Wando-Deokwoo, Wando-Modo, Imok-Namseong, Imok-Seoneop, and Ttangkkeut-Sanyang. In the Yeosu area, three routes are suspended: Yeosu-Geomun, Yeosu-Yeondo, and Yeosu-Dunbyeong. The Nokdong-Geomun route in the Goheung area is also suspended.


The high seas warning is expected to be lifted in the morning of October 4, making travel to island regions on this day inevitably disrupted.


Meanwhile, a high seas warning has been issued for the northern outer sea of the southern West Sea, the southern outer sea of the southern West Sea, the inner sea of the southern West Sea, and the eastern outer sea of the southern South Sea. A strong wind advisory has also been issued for Wando, Jindo, Heuksando, Hongdo, Geomundo, and Chodo.
